All my life, I’ve been trying to lose weight. I have tried many ways such as diet programmes, slimming centres, jogging, walking at the park, aerobics and the list goes on. Joining a gym was the last resort that I had in mind. After much persuasion from my sister, I registered myself as a member in Fitness First – The Curve last year. My sister encouraged me to join Group Exercise but I always gave her excuses because I was shy, lacked the confidence of learning the steps and most of all, I felt uncomfortable working out with other people that I do not know.

In August 2006, I tried Group Exercise for the very first time. I joined BODYJAM™, a dance based workout. Though it was a bit challenging at first in learning the steps, I enjoyed it very much. With all the songs, moves and the fun I had, I find that Group Exercise helps me release stress from work. I did not want to push myself too much by going to the gym everyday because I was afraid that if I do not lose weight, I will feel discouraged and stop working out. I told myself that I will take it one step at a time.

In March this year, I started to see results from my workout. With the encouragement and the support given to me by the BODYJAM™ instructors, I now attend at least 6 to 7 BODYJAM™ classes a week. Instructors also helped me by giving me some advice on my diet and recommend that I do some stretching. As such, I started attending BODYBALANCE™ classes. Now with a healthy diet, at least 6 BODYJAM™ classes and 1 to 2 BODYBALANCE™ classes a week, I lost 30kg in 8 months. I weighed 110 kg and I now weigh 80kg. Today, I feel more energetic, refreshed and healthier.

To lose weight is a tough journey, but I know for sure that with Group Exercise, it is fun and challenging. I made a lot of new friends and I am no longer shy. I feel motivated and confident. I am definitely looking forward to losing more weight and being healthier in months to come.

I want to say a big thank you to all the BODYJAM™ and BODYBALANCE™ instructors that have been helping, guiding, supporting and encouraging me. Indeed the support, encouragement and the motivation that was given to me kept me going. If you want to meet new friends, have a great time and see awesome results from your workout, I would say Group Exercise class is the best!
