In the past, my first passion was eating and I never really cared about going to the gym. To me, there was nothing more exciting besides eating. I constantly looked forward to feasting at hotels where they serve buffet style meals with a free flow of sugary sodas. My all time favourite cuisine was the Malay cuisine which mainly consists of deep fried savouries and coconut based meals. Having more than one serving and finishing leftovers came of second nature to me so much that my family crowned me the title of “food cleaner” back home. The festive seasons were heaven for me as I was able to have all the scrumptious food I desired without limitations.
But it is all in the past now. What made me CHANGE?
I attended a seminar on leadership and discovered that one of the attributes of being a good leader was to be healthy and fit. I then realised that most remarkable and reputable leaders globally were fit as a fiddle. Their healthy appearance implies that they are able to execute their duties outstandingly, thus, be better leaders just as how CNN labeled President Obama as “fit to lead” when he was elected as the President of United States. This fact was the driving force that inspired me to CHANGE. If I am going to excel in my career, then health and fitness should be my priority from now onwards. I then looked into various methods to lose weight and maintain my health. This was when I was first introduced to Fitness First.
My personal trainer, Hishamuddin, is an absolute natural at what he does best. It was easy for me to apply the burning calories technique I learnt during my time here in Fitness First. Besides working out, I constantly watched my diet. The first thing I changed was limiting my sugar intake. It took a week before I was able to train my taste bud to enjoy coffee without any sugar. Deep fried food is a big NO-NO for me as well.
As I signed up for the one-on-one programme, my biggest dillema was to believe in the result. I was not psyched that I had to go through all the physical and mental torture while sustaining the momentum to achieve the results. I would admit that it was tough initially but when I saw the results at the end of the first month, I was convinced that I could achieve my targeted weight. As Hisham always said, “You can do it! Don’t give up!”
Today, I have lost a total of 12kgs after 8 months with a 34” waistline as opposed to my 38” before I started the programme. I am confident that I would be able to achieve my target of 32” just like in my college years. I now feel good about myself and I am more confident in public especially when people noticed the difference in my appearance. I no longer have problems with high blood pressure so I do not have to take any medication. I am overwhelmed by the achievement and am proud to say that regular exercise is part of my lifestyle today.
Now, I am considered the role model among my family members, and colleagues in leading a healthy lifestyle. I choose my diet carefully and maintain a regular exercise regime at Fitness First. Food is no longer my priority as I believe that we should “Eat to Live” NOT “Live to Eat”. My wife is much inspired with my new healthy appearance and lifestyle that Hisham is now also her personal trainer at Fitness First.
Throughout my entire experience here with Fitness First, I would like to encourage the public that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is beneficial. I believe our success as a person does not depend on what happens to the people around us but rather, the changes that takes place within us which makes all the difference in our life.
I owe my achievement to Hisham and I would like to thank him from the bottom of my heart. Without his never-ending guidance and supervision, I would not be able to achieve what I have achieved today. Hisham, you are the best and I hope more people can benefit from your vast knowledge!
